Keto Review: Keto & Low Carb Sweeteners

I’ve tried the below list of sweeteners and can tell you my personal opinion on each one.

  • Choc Zero – This company doesn’t have a granular type of sweetener, however, I put them in this list as they carry syrups which I still used in my drinks and in my baking. They have sugar free maple, caramel, and chocolate syrups. They have no sugar alcohols, no soy, all natural, and GMO free. It’s great For Keto And other sugar free lifestyles and only 1g net carb per serving. You can read my full post here where I do an honest review on their products. I love their syrups, they are literally the thicker syrups out of all the brands out there today. Try it on your Keto pancakes and chaffles, it’s really good!
  • So Nourished – They carry monk fruit sweetener, erythritol, and blends for baking – 0 calorie and 0 net carb sweetener. Erythritol is a sugar alcohol that’s naturally derived from fruits and plants and passes through your body like fiber. Monk fruit extract contains natural sweetness hundreds of times that of sugar. Our sweetener is 0 net carbs & does not affect blood sugar. So Nourished My opinion? They are great for baking and cooking. I have used them in brownies, coffee, smoothies, and cooking too.
  • LakantoMonk Fruit Sweetener is the only zero-calorie, zero-glycemic sweetener that is just like sugar. It is made from monk fruit which was used for centuries in eastern traditional herbalism to increase chi and well-being, earning it the nickname “The Immortals’ Fruit”. Lakanto My opinion? I really like this brand. There is no aftertaste or chemical smell to it, it looks and dissolves like sugar. I use it in my coffee and smoothies. The only downside is I have to add more to make it taste sweeter. Other than that, I recommend trying it. They have classic, golden, organic, baking, powdered, and on-the-go packets too for classic and golden.
  • Better Body Foods – I tried their Monk Fruit sweetener blend – This healthy alternative contains a mix of erythritol and monk fruit that imitates the sweetness of sugar but contains zero calories. There is no aftertaste so I used it in my coffee and other drinks.
  • Swerve – A brand of Erythritol-based sugar substitute. Erythritol is a chemical compound, a sugar alcohol (or polyol), used as a food additive and sugar substitute. It is naturally occurring and is made from corn using enzymes and fermentation. Erythritol is 60–70% as sweet as sucrose (table sugar), yet it is almost noncaloric and does not affect blood sugar or cause tooth decay. Wikipedia My opinion? I used Swerve in a lot of my baking. Swerve has many types: granular, confectioners, and brown sugar sweetener replacement. It’s really good for the type of baking you require. I recommend trying it. The icing is my favorite one to use on Keto French Toast.
  • Stevia – Stevia is a natural sweetener and sugar substitute derived from the leaves of the plant species Stevia rebaudiana, native to Brazil and Paraguay. The active compounds are steviol glycosides, which have 30 to 150 times the sweetness of sugar, are heat-stable, pH-stable, and not fermentable. Wikipedia Stevia is very popular, however, there exists an allergy to ragweed and related plants: Stevia is in the Asteraceae/Compositae plant family. This family includes ragweed, chrysanthemums, marigolds, daisies, and many other plants. In theory, people who are sensitive to ragweed and related plants may also be sensitive to stevia. Webmd That is the main reason why I don’t use it today, however, in the past I used it in my baking.
  • Whole Earth – Merisant Company is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of zero/ low-calorie sugar substitutes. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of MacAndrews & Forbes.. Merisant markets ubiquitous brands in over 90 countries including Equal and Canderel, as well as natural sweeteners PureVia and Whole Earth featuring stevia and monkfruit extract. Wikipedia My opinion? I actually didn’t mind this sweetener. I first saw it at Starbucks in Canada. Whenever I see the packets, I grab a few extra to use at home for my coffee. 😂 I don’t remember any aftertaste while using it, it was a golden brown color which was nice to see.
  • Truvia – is a brand of stevia-based sugar substitute developed jointly by The Coca-Cola Company and Cargill. It is distributed and marketed by Cargill as a tabletop sweetener as well as a food ingredient. Truvia is made of stevia leaf extract, erythritol, and natural flavors. Wikipedia My opinion? In 2017, when I first started my Keto/LC journey, I started off with sweeteners like Splenda and Truvia. It’s not bad for my first try. I used it in my coffee and for baking. Over time, I found better sweeteners like monk fruit sweetener. If you’re a fan of stevia, you may like Truvia too.
