High Blood Sugar & Pre-diabetes

Over the years, I realized that going to numerous doctor’s appointments just to get a blood test were getting out of hand. Don’t get me wrong, the doctor’s appointments were important but I should have purchased a blood glucose monitor kit and track it daily on my own. I’ve been doing it the past year and it’s helped me so much. I also journal what i’m eating every day and the time I test my blood sugar. Whenever it spikes, I now know it’s because of a certain food I ate. However, if I didn’t eat, and it’s still high, then I check how I’m feeling and if I’m stressed out. Stress has been a major factor in pre-diabetes because of the high cortisol levels, so I’ve been monitoring the stress too.

There are some things that I do to try and lower my blood sugar:

  1. Exercise such as strength training using dumbbells or cables, kettlebells, and light cardio like rowing or treadmill.
  2. Intermittent fasting by eating a only few times a day and I start later in the day around noon or 2pm, instead of many meals throughout the day.
  3. Eating a salad before I eat my main course. I also make sure the salad has some type of vinegar on it. I also eat dessert after I eat my dinner, not as a snack on its own.
  4. Eating Keto/Low-Carb and Sugar-Free. Sure I have my weekends where I have a bit of carbs but I don’t go crazy spiking my blood sugar where I feel like crap afterwards. Going keto/low-carb and sugar-free has been the biggest life saver, it has help me with discipline, routine, and maintenance when it comes to food.
  5. Going for a walk after dinner. I usually go with my husband or I hop on the treadmill in my building. I noticed when it’s really high because I had more carbs on the weekend and I go for a walk, I feel ten times better afterwards.
  6. Track what I eat and my blood sugar.
  7. Drinking water. Water helps to dilute the thickness of your blood which can help prevent blood clots. I don’t drink 8 glasses a day but I’ll try to make sure I have enough, especially to prevent dehydration.
  8. Electrolytes help prevent my headaches and keeps my body hydrated. This may not lower my blood sugar per say, but it takes away other types of pain. The ones I use is called Ath Lytes and they are made with monk fruit sweetener. Here’s their link: LYTES | ATH https://www.athsport.co #notsponsored

Doing these things has been very beneficial for my health. Let me know what you do to lower your blood sugar. Take care, Ketobeastbeauty
